How to fall asleep fast

Hypnosis can help you sleep well.

Years ago, my elderly father told me he wanted to enjoy a nap in the afternoon but couldn’t fall asleep. This was in the days of cassettes (little tapes than ran in recording machines – the forerunners of CDs). I offered to create a hypnosis cassette for him.

Since his main fear (which, ironically, never bothered him for night-time sleep) was that he would die during an afternoon nap I incorporated the message “awakening at the time you choose” (after such suggestions as “you enjoy a deep, relaxing, refreshing sleep”). Worked wonders for the rest of his days.

Do you have difficulty falling asleep?

Your reason for having trouble falling asleep may not be the same as my father’s but hypnosis can still deal with it effectively. Hypnotic suggestions go directly to your subconscious so worries can be set aside, your body can be relaxed, and you can relish a wonderfully deep sleep because that’s where control over such activities lie – within your subconscious.

Using hypnosis, you can enhance self-control over your subconscious.

You’ve heard all the advice about how to fall asleep fast. Here’s a summary:

  • Use the bed only for sex and sleep

  • Keep the TV in another room

  • Get lots of exercise during the day

  • Make a clear break between your working day and sleeping time

  • Keep your bedroom cool

  • Stop eating a few hours before bedtime

  • Stop alcohol intake at least 2 hours before bedtime

  • Turn off all lights

  • If you do awaken during the night, get out of the bed

  • Buy the best mattress you can afford

What’s missing from that list of otherwise excellent advice?

Control of your anxious or troubling thoughts.

And how do you deal with those? You guessed it. HYPNOSIS.

Hypnosis increases your self-control by paradoxically allowing you to relax.

Since hypnosis is like day-dreaming you can harness it to imagine yourself calm, relaxed and drifting into a deep, pleasant, refreshing sleep (and yes, awakening at the time you choose!)

Sleeping aids
If you still have trouble falling asleep, remaining asleep or getting back to sleep, you should check with your doctor to be sure there’s no medical reason for your sleep disorder.

Remember to ask about potential side effects of any drugs they may prescribe for you. Also ask what the long-term effects are and if you’ll have to take the pills for the rest of your life.
